I Have Thoughts, Apparently
What happens when a person with too many thoughts finally decides to write them down?
Being a “serial dater” means I’ve been on way too many dates and collected way too many stories.
For me, dating has obviously always been about meeting new people but also, if I’m being completely honest, about coming home with a funny story to tell my friends.
I’m not exactly funny enough to go do stand-up comedy, but I’ve been told many times that I should start writing about my dating experiences. So here I am doing it.
I’ve always loved stories. I love reading them, listening to them, collecting them. So I thought: how hard could writing one actually be?
Turns out… pretty hard. But I’m trying, and that has to count for something.
At first, I thought this could just be a dating blog. A collection of my own personal romantic (mis)adventures Carrie Bradshaw style except set in Napoli (Naples? It’s awkward calling your hometown with a foreign name) instead of New York and with fewer designer shoes.
But as much as I may go on many dates, I don’t have enough material (yet) to build an entire website around my questionable romantic decisions. I considered adding travel to the mix and becoming a proper lifestyle blogger, but the truth is I don’t travel nearly enough to justify pretending I’m constantly discovering new corners of the world.
So instead, I decided to write about whatever the fuck comes to mind.
Dating stories. Books I love. Places I want to see. Recipes, even. Basically any random thought that refuses to leave my head.
Be ready. There’s a lot of them.
Now, the obvious question: why English?
Writing in English gives me a little bit of emotional distance. It might sound strange, but it’s actually become the only way I’m able to talk about my feelings in a way that makes sense to me. Maybe (undoubtedly) I need therapy, but for now, this will do.
So consider this my notebook-diary-thing: a place where I just yap about what happens in my daily life, the things I notice, and whatever I find interesting enough to write down.
Welcome to my field notes.
